short circuit

Quiet, dependable IT for businesses that would rather get on with their own work. Also, a few other things…

Part one

the everyday work

Most of what we do is ordinary, which is how IT ought to be. Something needs doing, it gets done, and you can stop thinking about it.

IT consulting
Practical advice on what to buy, what to keep and what to retire. Plain answers, no upselling.
Hardware & networks
Workstations, servers, switches, Wi-Fi, cabling, and the cupboard where all of it lives.
Managed PCs
Your team's computers looked after remotely: updates, security, backups and the occasional mystery slowdown.
Servers & mail hosting
Servers kept patched and backed up. Mail hosts managed so email keeps arriving and stays out of the spam folder.
Email & accounts
New starters set up with email and everything else on day one. Leavers tidied away properly.
Remote support
Most problems are solved remotely; site visits avoided, but possible.
Data recovery
Failed drives, deleted folders, corrupted cards. We recover what can be recovered.
Setup & rollout
A new office, a new fleet of laptops, a new everything. Planned, installed and handed over working.
Part two

the less ordinary work

Some work doesn't sit neatly on an invoice line. It's listed here by catalogue number. The gaps in the numbering are intentional.

  • SC-07

    Listening

Some faults only reveal themselves to patience. We sit with the machine until it explains itself.

  • SC-13

    Recoveries

Files, mostly. Printers we'd rather let rest. Occasionally a Wi-Fi network that was definitely there yesterday.

  • SC-19

    Phenomena

Fans at 3am, lights blinking in patterns, problems that vanish if you look directly at them. We take notes, then we find the cause.

  • SC-29

    Laying to rest

Retiring old hardware properly. Data wiped, parts recycled, nothing left behind.

  • SC-31

    Second opinions

If you've been told something can't be done, we're happy to take another look.

  • SC-37

    Things made

Parametric 3D modelling and 3D printing. Parts that don't exist yet, or no longer do. Custom electronics where nothing off the shelf will do.

  • SC-41

    Copies of places

Photogrammetry. Many photographs become one measured model: a building, a paddock, a unique object.

  • SC-47

    Thinking machines

AI implementation: letting machines do more of the work, so you can do… even more work? We show you where it genuinely helps, how to set it up safely, and which parts are hype.

  • SC-53

    Access

Licensed to work underwater, at height, in confined spaces and on building sites, with first aid along for the trip. We also have passwords for things.

  • SC-??

    Unlisted

If it isn't here, ask. We're curious about your strangest problems.

Procedure

how an enquiry goes

  1. 1

Tell us what's happening. A rough description is fine.

  2. 2

We take a look, on site or remotely, whichever suits the problem.

  3. 3

It's sorted. We note down what happened, so next time is simpler.
